Talk about time in French.

What you'll learn

  • Name the days of the week
  • Name the months
  • Notice French doesn't capitalize them
Circling the calendar

'On se voit lundi prochain' — see you next Monday. Days, months, and dates let you make plans and mark birthdays, turning French from words into a working calendar.

Les jours et les mois

The French week: lundi, mardi, mercredi, jeudi, vendredi, samedi, dimanche. Months include janvier, février, mars, avril, mai. Unlike English, days and months are written in lowercase. To ask the date: 'Quelle est la date?'.

Lowercase, and day-before-month

French writes dates day/month: 'le 14 juillet' (July 14th). Days and months are never capitalized mid-sentence.
