  • Recognize ser vs estar
The first handshake

You arrive in Madrid and the very first thing that happens is a greeting — 'Hola, ¿cómo te llamas?' Learning to say hello and give your name is the handshake that opens every conversation in Spanish.

Hola y me llamo

  • Hola — Hello
  • Buenos días — Good morning
  • Me llamo… — My name is…
  • ¿Cómo estás? — How are you?
Ser vs estar

Both mean 'to be': ser for permanent traits (Soy alto), estar for states/location (Estoy cansado).
