Family words: madre (mother), padre (father), hermana (sister), hermano (brother), abuela (grandmother), abuelo (grandfather). To describe people you use adjectives like alto/alta (tall) and simpático/simpática (nice) — and they change ending to match whether the person is male or female.
Adjectives agree
In Spanish, adjectives match the noun's gender: 'mi hermano es alto' but 'mi hermana es alta'. The ending -o/-a shifts to agree.
