'The happy dog runs' — dog is the noun doing the acting, runs is the verb, happy is the adjective coloring it in. Naming each word's job in a real sentence is like pointing out who's who in a busy photo.
Every word has a job
A sentence has a subject (who or what it's about) and a verb (the action). Around them, nouns name things and adjectives describe them. Labeling each word's part of speech reveals how the sentence is built.
