The louder instruction

With one brown and one blue eye allele, brown usually wins — it's dominant, like a louder voice drowning out a quieter one. The recessive blue only shows when there's no brown to hide it.

Who wins

A dominant allele shows even when paired with a recessive one; a recessive trait appears only when both alleles are recessive.
